Following a visit to the NWSC’s International Resource Centre (IREC), the Minister of Water and Environment Hon. Sam Cheptoris, his Permanent Secretary David Obong and the State Minister for environment Hon. Kitutu Mary officiated the commissioning of the new Kanyanya-Gayaza-Kasangati water supply system.

The team had earlier in the day been briefed by NWSC’s Board Chairperson and Managing Director on the corporation’s activities and plans for the future. The ceremony, which also doubled as a welcome for the new minister featured presentations, introductions and more. After this, the team headed to the north of Kampala where a 1,000,000-liter Capacity Water reservoir awaited. The reservoir, part of the wider Kanyanya Water Sub system involved the laying of a transmission & distribution mains, upgrading of the existing booster and installation of the 1 million litre reservoir tank. These interventions will bring relief to residents of Kyanja, Komamboga, Kungu, Masooli, Kasangati, Gayaza, Mpererwe, Kitezi and Namere by adding four million litres of water per day to about 500,000 people in the area.
Speaking during the commissioning, the Hon Minister Of Water & Environment, Sam Cheptoris praised NWSC. “I get pleased whenever I see a parastatal performing. Water is a human right and NWSC should continue expanding its services to every corner of Uganda…We will work towards making water cheaper,” he said.
The ceremony climaxed with a stakeholder/customer engagement meeting at Wampewo play grounds where the team interacted with excited residents.
